Electric Flame Scallop

Diver Kris Anderson was lucky enough to come across this Electric Flame Scallop, which is not an everyday find.
An interesting thing about this Bivalve is that it displays what looks like a bluish electrical discharge across its mantel
often described as a lightning bolt. This electrical looking discharge is in actuality a form of bioluminescence.
Marine biologists believe it may act as an attraction for plankton, which it then feeds on.
